Solar Design Toolkit

Synosure (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Solar Design Toolkit mobile application.

This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use Solar Design Toolkit, including information processed by third-party services used for subscriptions, advertising, privacy consent, and cloud infrastructure.

We aim to collect and process only information reasonably necessary to provide, secure, monetize, and improve the app.

1. Information Stored on Your Device

Solar Design Toolkit allows you to enter information used for solar-system planning and calculations, such as:

  • Project names 
  • Electrical load information 
  • Appliance information 
  • Energy-use estimates 
  • Solar panel and array information 
  • Battery information 
  • Inverter information 
  • MPPT and string configuration details 
  • Cost and savings assumptions 
  • App settings and preferences 

This information is primarily stored locally on your device.

Solar Design Toolkit currently does not require a Synosure user account, and your solar projects are not automatically uploaded to a Synosure cloud database.

If you uninstall the app or delete its local data, locally stored information may be removed, subject to Android backup and restore behavior where applicable.

Reports or PDF files you export are stored in the location selected or provided by your device.

2. Solar Pro Subscriptions and Google Play Billing

Solar Design Toolkit may offer optional paid features through a Solar Pro subscription.

Subscription purchases are processed through Google Play Billing.

We do not directly collect or process your:

  • Credit or debit card number 
  • Bank account information 
  • Google Play payment credentials 

Payment processing is handled by Google Play under Google's own terms and privacy policies.

When a Solar Pro purchase needs to be verified, the app receives a Google Play purchase token and securely sends that token to our subscription-verification service.

The purchase token is used to confirm the status and validity of the subscription through the Google Play Developer API.

Subscription verification may involve information such as:

  • Subscription status 
  • Subscription plan 
  • Expiration time 
  • Acknowledgement status 
  • Whether the transaction is a test purchase 

Our application-level verification service is designed not to permanently store purchase tokens in a Synosure application database or intentionally log purchase tokens, Google Play order IDs, payment information, or raw purchase responses.

3. Subscription Verification Service

Solar Design Toolkit uses a backend service hosted on Google Cloud Run to verify Solar Pro subscriptions.

The verification service communicates with the Google Play Developer API before Solar Pro entitlement is granted.

Communication between the app and the verification service uses HTTPS.

Google Cloud infrastructure may process standard technical information required to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and monitor the service.

4. Advertising and Google AdMob

The free version of Solar Design Toolkit may display advertising provided through Google AdMob using the Google Mobile Ads SDK / GMA Next-Gen SDK.

When advertising functionality is enabled, Google's Mobile Ads SDK may automatically collect and share certain information for purposes including advertising, analytics, measurement, and fraud prevention.

According to Google's current disclosure documentation, this information may include:

  • IP address, which may be used to estimate the general location of a device 
  • User interactions, such as app launches, taps, and interactions with advertising content 
  • Diagnostic and performance information, such as app launch performance, hangs, and energy usage 
  • Device and account identifiers, which may include the Android advertising ID, App Set ID, and other applicable identifiers 

Google states that data collected by the GMA Next-Gen SDK is encrypted in transit using TLS. 

The Android advertising ID can be reset or deleted through applicable Android privacy settings. Certain advertising configurations, including limited-ad modes, may reduce or disable use of local advertising identifiers. 

We do not sell this advertising information ourselves.

Google may process advertising-related information according to its own privacy policies and advertising policies.

5. Personalized, Non-Personalized and Limited Ads

Depending on your location, consent choices, applicable law, device settings, and Google's advertising requirements, Solar Design Toolkit may receive:

  • Personalized ads 
  • Non-personalized ads 
  • Limited ads or other restricted advertising modes 

Personalized advertising may use previously collected or historical information to help determine which ads are shown.

Non-personalized advertising is not based on your past behavior for ad targeting, although Google explains that identifiers or similar technologies may still be used for purposes such as frequency capping and aggregated advertising reporting.

Limited ads restrict personalization and disable features that require use of a local identifier. 

Availability of a particular advertising mode depends on applicable consent and Google advertising requirements.

6. Advertising Consent and Privacy Choices

Solar Design Toolkit may use Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request and manage advertising-related privacy choices where required.

For users in regions such as the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, Google requires applicable disclosures and consent for certain uses of personal data and device storage related to advertising. Google supports this through certified consent-management solutions such as UMP. 

When required, the app may present a consent or privacy-options message that allows you to review applicable choices relating to advertising.

Consent information may be refreshed when the app starts so that the app can determine whether a consent message or privacy-options entry point is required. 

Your available choices may vary depending on your location and applicable regulations.

7. Google Services

Solar Design Toolkit uses or may use Google services including:

  • Google Play 
  • Google Play Billing 
  • Google Play Developer API 
  • Google Cloud 
  • Google AdMob / Google Mobile Ads 
  • Google User Messaging Platform 

These services may process information according to their respective terms and privacy practices.

8. Analytics

Solar Design Toolkit does not currently use a separate third-party user analytics platform such as a dedicated behavioral analytics service.

However, services integrated into the app, including Google Mobile Ads, may process interaction, diagnostic, advertising-measurement, and related information as described in this Privacy Policy. Google's current GMA Next-Gen disclosure lists advertising, analytics, and fraud prevention among the purposes for which automatically collected SDK data may be processed. 

If we later introduce a separate analytics service with materially different data practices, this Privacy Policy will be updated.

9. How We Use Information

Information processed through Solar Design Toolkit may be used to:

  • Perform solar-system calculations 
  • Save and reopen projects 
  • Generate reports and PDF exports 
  • Remember app preferences 
  • Process and verify Solar Pro subscriptions 
  • Restore valid subscription access 
  • Display and measure advertising in the free version 
  • Manage advertising consent and privacy choices 
  • Prevent fraud and abuse 
  • Maintain app and service reliability and security 

We do not sell your personal information.

10. Information Sharing

We do not sell or rent user information to advertisers or data brokers.

Information may be processed or shared with service providers where necessary to provide app functionality, including Google services used for:

  • App distribution 
  • Subscription billing 
  • Subscription verification 
  • Cloud infrastructure 
  • Advertising 
  • Advertising measurement 
  • Consent management 
  • Fraud prevention 

Google Play requires developers to account for data collected or shared through third-party SDKs as part of their own app disclosures. 

We may also disclose information where required by applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.

11. Data Retention

Solar project data and preferences stored locally remain on your device until you delete them, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app, subject to Android backup and restore behavior where applicable.

Our Solar Pro verification backend is designed not to persist purchase tokens in a Synosure application database.

Google and other service providers may retain information they process according to their own retention policies and legal obligations.

Standard cloud infrastructure logs may also be retained according to the configuration and retention policies of the applicable cloud provider.

12. Data Security

We use reasonable technical measures intended to protect information processed by Solar Design Toolkit.

For example:

  • Subscription verification communications use HTTPS. 
  • Subscription entitlement is verified through a backend service rather than relying solely on the Android application. 
  • Purchase tokens are not intentionally written to normal application logs or persistent app databases. 
  • Payment credentials are handled by Google Play rather than by Solar Design Toolkit. 
  • Google states that data collected by the GMA Next-Gen SDK is encrypted in transit using TLS. 

However, no method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

13. Your Choices

You may:

  • Delete locally saved projects using available app functionality 
  • Clear the app's local data through Android settings 
  • Uninstall the app 
  • Manage or cancel Solar Pro through Google Play 
  • Reset or delete the Android advertising ID through applicable Android privacy settings 
  • Make advertising-consent choices through applicable consent/privacy messages provided in the app 
  • Because Solar Design Toolkit currently does not provide a Synosure user-account system, there is no separate Synosure account profile to delete.

14. Children's Privacy

Solar Design Toolkit is a technical solar-planning utility and is not specifically directed toward children under the age of 13.

We do not knowingly operate a Synosure account system that collects personal profile information from children.

If you believe a child has provided personal information to us in another way, please contact us so that we can investigate and take appropriate action.

15. International Processing

Third-party service providers used by Solar Design Toolkit, including Google services, may process information on servers located outside your country or region.

Such processing is handled according to the service provider's applicable privacy, security, contractual, and legal requirements.

16. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when Solar Design Toolkit, applicable laws, third-party services, or their data practices change.

The revised Privacy Policy will be published on this page with an updated effective date.
